2013 was a massive year for Transmission, and in particular for Stuart (our founding art director) who authored, curated and designed his first book to be published by Thames and Hudson in Autumn 2014. Collector’s Edition – a showcase for beautiful, tactile and collectable graphic design and packaging for the music, book and magazine industries – is now in the final stages of colour correcting and editorial proofing. Watch this space for more info….

We have been working closely with the charity Malaria Consortium to art direct a series of learning papers that highlight their excellent preventative work in African and Asian. We overhauled the editorial design direction to create a bright, confident, informative style that will be a centre piece for their tenth anniversary celebrations. Hello 2014

Happy New Year! 2013 was a very exciting year for Transmission. We started working with a number of new editorial clients, created numerous book covers for long standing clients and made new friends while writing and curating our first book – Collector’s Edition – which is to be launched this Autumn by Thames and Hudson. 2014 promises to be even more exciting, as our first book is released and a other major publishing projects (which we cannot talk about right now) go to print. Will keep you posted!

Award Nomination

Our design for the the book ‘Criminal London’ published by Aurum Press was nominated at the British Travel Press Awards. Sadly we didn’t win the top prize, but it was a nice surprise to be recognised.

For the past year Stuart has been writing a book about collector’s edition graphic design and packaging which is to be published by Thames and Hudson in 2014. After a period of intense work, the first batch of initial designs have been handed over to the publisher for editing. Here is a shot taken while setting up for the interview portrait with Dinos Chapman.

Key Concepts Series #2

More examples from the Key Concepts in philosophy book cover series we are creating for Polity Press. This edition looks at ‘Disagreement’

Key Concepts Series #1

For the past year we have been designing a series of book covers for Polity Press titles ‘Key Concepts’ in philosophy. The stripped back cover design reflects the concept of each title through graphic shapes, patterns and a single colour palette. All covers are created in house.

We have created a few covers for Bloomsbury recently and they are always good fun. ‘From Communism to Capitalism’ was no exception and saw us experimenting with water and ink to create a book cover design that reflects the opposites of Communism (red ink) and Capitalism (green / money ink). The reversible type enhances the concept of opposites.

We just created this playful, intricate, graphic book cover design for Bloomsbury which will be published next year. The book looks at the relationship between music and books.

The second in the series of learning papers we are art directing for Malaria Consortium has been published. We again commissioned the extremely talented Andrew Lyons to create the cover illustration. A digital version can be viewed here. Watch this space, as there are more in the series to be published soon…
